Remote Notarization in Pennsylvania
In an increasingly digital world, traditional methods of conducting legal and real estate transactions are being challenged by the need for convenience, speed, and safety. One such method undergoing significant transformation is notarization.
In Pennsylvania, as well as across the nation, the emergence of remote notarization is offering a solution that meets the demands of modern life. Whether due to the rise in remote work, the shift towards digital documentation, or the ongoing global health challenges, remote notarization has become a necessary innovation in today’s world.
The Pennsylvania Department of State requires that all notaries who are using audio-visual technology as an alternative to personal appearance must:
Become an approved Pennsylvania electronic notary (which is a free application);
Use an e-notary solution already approved by the Department that offers remote notarization technology; and
Indicate in the notary certificate that the notarial act was performed by means of communication technology. The following statement will satisfy the requirements – “This notarial act involved the use of communication technology.”
Notaries must still execute all notarial acts, including acknowledgments, in accordance with all other requirements of the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts (RULONA).
From real estate transactions to legal documents, remote notarization provides an effective way for individuals and businesses to manage official documents without the need for in-person meetings.
